Welcome to "Simon in Rwanda"
Why a book about Simon? Because most things written for children about Africa are full of stereotypes and make no attempt to explore the differences in the realities of the people living there. Africa is described as a country and not a continent. People are “different” per se, and the things they do are measured against European values. But how would a boy from Europe experience Africa? He would come to Rwanda, a small country in the middle of the African continent, neutral in values, excited and attentive, his eyes open. He would learn from the reality he experienced, rather than bringing preconceptions with him. “Simon in Rwanda” is a series of books for children aged 4-6 years old. It should help them to get to know Africa with their own eyes and react to the people there as they experience their everyday life - just as if they are standing alongside Simon. They can ask, think, and form their own opinions. Enjoy this intercultural trip with Simon.
